Just for a little bit of an insight into what just happened in SA. This video shows the typical iron ore freight train that derailed on the Sishen to Saldanha Bay line on Sunday March 10, 2024 somewhere along the line. I'd say the line will be blocked for a while. Of course, this follows an earlier derailment on January 14 of a similar train (pic below).
And you have to think, this derailment could have happened anywhere along the 861 ks of track through the African wilderness. The train was, apparently, fully loaded with iron ore. Quite a challenge to restore the line, I would say.
