Correction. While according, to news reports, the recent train derailment on Sunday 10th March was an iron ore train (and these trains are up to 4 kilometres long and are touted as the longest iron ore trains in the world) and was travelling, fully loaded from Sishen to Saldanha Bay, the collision of 2 Transnet trains on January 14 involved trains carrying coal for a company called Thungela Resources. That derailment, which happened at Richards Bay, on the East coast, took 5 days to clear.

There is no indication in the press, as yet, as to where exactly on the 861 k track the iron ore train from Sishen mine derailed, or if partial operation has been restored.
So the two incidents, occuring some two months apart, were on different lines.
