In 2021 GRR did a feasabilty study into using hydrogen in their pellet plant in Tasmania.
The study showed hydrogen was multiple times more expensive than the natural gas that is currently used in the pellet plant.
Perhaps there is no economic way to bring hydrogen even remotely near the ball park so that it could even be considered to be supported by on going government subsidies.
GRR has since dumped the idea of hydrogen and instead have embarked on tweaking the use of dramatically cheaper natural gas.
Even if GRR have to start paying a proposed emissions tax on natural gas, it is still a way, way cheaper alternative than hydrogen.
