Increased profits = increased dividends, also share price to increase...thus adding value to the stock...Buy backs do nothing for share holders....except dilute dividends going forward..
Reducing debt by $ 500 million would more likely increase share price as opposed to $ 500 million on buybacks i.e. less interest on debt payable..
