More iron ore looks to be taken out of the market. Shougang in Peru had its iron ore mine suspended by environmental regulators due to potential leakages into the bay.
It produced 8.5m tonnes in the first half of last year.

Peru’s environmental regulator OEFA (Organismo de Evaluación y Fiscalización Ambiental) has ordered Shougang Hierro Perú to immediately halt transportation and mineral concentrate storage operations at its Marcona iron ore beneficiation plant in Ica until it implements environmental control measures to contain particulate material that could impact San Nicolas Bay.
The regulator detected material leaks from iron ore stockpiles during an inspection. It also ordered the company to present a remediation programme within five days for the area affected.
