US markets were consumed by individual stock moves as earning season rolls on over there, the stock specific nature of the moves are evident when you consider that the Dow jumped 180pts from its low and in that time the Nasdaq went nowhere.
It was am impressive performance by resource stocks however which basically opened on their low and rallied during the entire session, BHP the standout:
