    I'm skeptical on the superior iron lithium battery for now. First, this particular project is driven by cost, not science. Second, they are chemists working on paper, not engineers working on batteries. They have "discovered" the theoretical number of ions that "could" force oxygen to be a participant in energy exchange. So far the North Western team has made a lot of high-falutin promises that are attention grabbing but also pretty incredible. When they build a prototype that actually demonstrates what they argue is possible it will be more compelling.

    More generally I think that most new battery systems in the short term will increase diversity of applications rather than threatening to supplant each other. Having said that, graphite needs to advance into nano land in order to hold its ground against titanium etc.
