StatsMan I agree with your view that it depends on your personal circumstances as to the value perceived in $150k. However, only 3% of people earn over $150k. The average wage is $75k and below. If people on $150k don't consider themselves well off then you can safely assume under $75k makes you poor. The only thing in my opinion that puts the biggest cost on wages is rent/mortgage, remove them and you would be 'rich' even on $75k. I feel for the genuine earners under $50k. You can argue it's their choice but not everyone can be a graduate or tradie, not that all jobs with qualifications pay more than unskilled jobs.
