KNL did in fact use flotation 1st AND Chemical purification 2nd to get to 99.94% if you read carefully... So not quite a 1 step process it appears...

Step 1. Flotation

Step 2 . Chemical Purification by HF acid. Results calculated by drying at temperatures in the range of 400 °C and from LOI.

Using acid is costly when talking of large volumes of ore being treated and I assume toxic to the environment. I It also takes a lot of energy to heat all concentrate to 400 degrees C ... I believe Syr only need to heat to 90 Degrees to achieve the same/similar result ie 99.9% Purity.

Now they have only proven the process on a very small sample and have yet to prove it at scale like say LMB have done.
