Up to a couple of generations ago most of those living in the so-called Western world focused on survival first and foremost. As most do still in many other parts of the world. Most of us westerners live in lala land, but with the decline of the oil age heading our way it could well be deja vu all over again. So imo you either need to prepare or be prepared to suffer the consequences of not being prepared. So I'd forget about enjoying the present if I were you and save like there was no tomorrow :)
