Adventra09, you may be speaking from a position of no knowledge of ANY of the independents involved.
Katter hates Truss whom he believes is responsible for the destruction, through deregulation, of the dairy industry in his electorate.
And he DOES want the NBN. His bottom line is "SURVIVAL OF THE BUSH"!! And he sees the NBN as integral to this.
But Katter has stated PUBLICLY that he would not agree to an NBN that was privatised because the privatisation of Telstra had delivered the most wretched quality of service to the bush.
The other ex-National independents were also treated with scant respect in Parliament (especially by the leadership of the National party). One of them has particularly mentioned Barnaby Joyce as the last person he wants to deal with.
Regarding your belief that they would not deliver a mining tax, that's CLEARLY A REASON WHY THEY SHOULD BE WITHIN RATHER THAN OUTSIDE OF THE GOVERNMENT. For they trade off a lower tax in return for their support.
The Greens want the tax back at 40% and not just restricted to the iron ore and coal companies.
