Well, James Hooper from the Daily Telegraph thinks he should be Australian of the year now.
Personally, as a male, i thought Goodes really overreacted and came out looking like a sook. While most will be sitting home thinking the same thing, they won't come out and say it for fear of being labeled a racist. I find it quite ironic that Eddie McGuire went on a points scoring mission to be the first into the sheds. Everyone is jumping over each other to show how sensitive they are to the cause. Probably the equivalent of trying to get a "thumbs up" in society. But, privately, most people are saying, "awww come on" she was 13 or it was "ape".
I totally respect Goodes for his stand. And it is another step in stamping out racism which is good.
But, as a male, I think the whole, "we are consoling him", "he is shattered beyond belief" etc is a bit too much for us to swallow, especially when it came from an uneducated kid. Goodes would have won a lot more respect if he just said, "I am angry and disappointed that this had to happen and i am doing this because it is right".
Totally agree with his stance! It's the point scoring and the blowing it out of proportion that i dislike. Australian of the year??
