An $18bn purchase price represents around 15% of the market cap of CSL. They have already shed more than half of that today. One more day like this and the loss in market cap would make up for the purchase price. This would technically write off any and all benefits of the Vifor acquistion. I haven't looked into the products from Vifor but I thought they had more than one products. If so, wiping the value of Vifor from the market cap is a clear over reaction.
All of this does beg the question, could blood therapies eventually be mostly replaced by pills? Is that even a valid question to ask or is it scientifically impossible? My simple mind says some aspects of blood can never be replaced e.g if someone uses blood and needs new blood you got to give blood. But I have a knowledge gap when it comes to blood therapies used to tread diseases.
