We haven't had great leaders in terms of women being treated with respect... Bob Hawke was a disgrace in what he allegedly said to his daughter and how he treated his wife was pretty much par for the course for many men back in those days - Tony Abbott's ironing comments among the many other gaffes, but he seems to have had the support of his daughters who looked like they'd give him heaps, but it wasn't a good look - Morrison and Hillsong where women were meant to be in the kitchen and bedroom! They're jusy a couple off the top of my head. Good to see the AFL get behind this as the minutes silence in the showdown last night testified. Big Tex shed a tear for his mate retiring, wouldn't done that decades ago, he was also in strife a cupla years back for a racist slur in the heat of the moment! Decency prevailed, lesson learned, he's a better person and instinctive stuff learned years ago is suppressed. For those who don't follow footy you mightn't understand the significance, the DV movement (fancy needing this for blokes to show respect to half our population, staggering!) will rear it's head in country footy too, trust me! The AFL does some good stuff, get into a good footy club in a rural area and there's no better place... it's a melting pot. The ones who don't understand what the fuss is all about simply lack social awareness... those who bash women and intimidate them need to be put in prison because it's the equivalent of a coward's punch.

I doubt a guys daughters would be a good gauge mate. Kids are very forgiving of their parents usually and vice versa. It would be interesting to know Abbotts thoughts of his own daughters and where he'd like to see them end up? I'd be very confident in saying that his wish wouldn't be ironing ladies. Abbott was very well known for his less than intelliegent brain pharts, that was probably just 1 in a long list.
