The young men in question get little recognition, help, or reward from both sexes as they offer little of worth to either sex compared to others.
It's a time for them to develop themselves and add to their worth in their own eyes, and the eyes of others. That focus rather than the focus on non acceptance is what will help them through those years.
We shallow humans like what we like and can't help that. Selection pressures cause problems for the non-selected.
With age the young males status can change and the percentages for them can change with it. The 5 foot tall Asian man can't do much to fix things in a western world. Going to Asia is probably his best bet where the height difference will be much less.
