BRICS is not a future superpower. BRICS has China and Russia as members, both are currently superpowers, with India not far behind.
At the same time India is in the QUAD, and in close cooperation with the US in upgrading their military. So there is no problem with a US ally like India having membership in BRICS. There is no good reason Australia could not apply for membership, unless the US just wants to keep Australia as a tightly held colony, which it is not. Our largest trading partner, China and 4th largest India are members of BRICS.
The US have been treating Australia with contempt over the Assange affair, and Australia badly needs to show some independence as a result. Application to BRICS would be a good start.
