Australia voted to 'stop the boats' so whether we term this a 'war, 'operation' or 'shin-dig' is irrelevant. The Navy is now in charge of a major component of the government’s policy and due to the dangerous nature of turning boats back the government has taken a strategic and legal precaution.
This is a hardline policy and to make it work it actually requires hardline action and not just rhetoric.
I'm glad it is the navy that is conducting these operations because they are well trained and equipped. My fear would have been some half baked extension of a customs unit.
