I am going through exaclty this conundrum on LYC
I have staggered my purchases at 5 % intervals (3rd parcel now). For that one I beleive the odds are in my favour as production is imminent and the politician are giving me an opportunity. The story in my view has good odds
Another one (ORD) I took the hit and downsized considerably at a 30% or more loss. I kept some and bought only small parcels again averaging down but this time at less painfull loss sizes. So for that one much smaller parcels in averaging down plus taking a loss.
So the two above have different averagin down strategies combined with loss taking etc etc,
I dont think its cut and dry but I dont want to set fixed stop losses and I dont want them visible either.
I just get out whenever I think the story is no longer there or if I want to move over to another co thats about to go up while the current one languishes. Move it around so to speak. Preferably when there is strength in one good story and weekness in another good story, the key being that there must be a good story (ie the FA bit)
