    No robmillion.

I don't have any "evidence " as such.

But it makes sense for the regional banks to get bigger to more successfully compete with the big 4.
This is broadly accepted in the financial press.

There has been recent broker talk along the lines that BEN could either buy SUNs banking arm or merge with BOQ.

Bendigo & BOQ did hold talks a few years ago when BOQ wanted to take over Bendigo in what was consided a hostile takeover.
The Bendigo board at the time rejected the BOQ overtures, and soon after, BEN went ahead and merged with the Bank of Adelaide.

On 9th Sept this year BELL POTTER put out a report promoting the case for BEN to take over SUNs banking arm.
Although not mentioned in the BELL POTTER report, one of the potential hurdles to this was the Great Southern litigation case hanging over BENs head which involed 100s of millions of dollars.
The case has been dragging on for a number of years.
This was finally resolved in November 2014 in BENs favour.
(although there are some posters who think it has more to come.)

Right now BOQ is searching for a new CEO and maybe ???? they are holding back on this while "discussions" are being held with BEN.... but that is pure speculation on my part.

Let's see what the new year brings.

    Cheers,
    bendigo
