Lumberjack, our royalties basically are taxes on assets. They generally tax production (ie the asset extracted) not profit and it's inefficient. That's why the mining industry was initially calling for profit based taxation to the Henry tax review before the ALP butchered the good will with their hamfisted handling of the Henry review recommendations. Better politics then and we'd have better policy now with everyone on board.
