Is Boris giving back Northern Ireland to Ireland and the EU?

As most people know, the stumbling block for Brexit is Northern Ireland and its backstop. Keeping Ireland as Europe but having Northern Ireland as UK means unpopular borders. Animal health checks, then customs checks, then ultimately identity and passport checks.

But that ruins the peace process that ended the Troubles in Ireland. That means, eventually, violence and terrorism.

The original EU idea was to keep Northern Ireland in the EU customs union and make the hard border between Ireland (including Northern Ireland) and Great Britain (Scotland, England and Wales). The Democratic Unionists said stuff that. It was as good as handing Northern Ireland back to be a part of Ireland in the long term.

Theresa May's solution for the weird ass DUP was to make all of the UK part of the EU customs union after the UK left. Lots of people thought that sucked and that it made a mockery of Brexit.

Now the UK's PM, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, has a choice. No deal or throw over Northern Ireland to be effectively part of the EU.

Makes sense though. Shouldn't Ireland be Ireland?
