"Many say that Democracy's challenge going forward in inequality in that we are equal to the extent that we all have one vote, equal before the law & equal before our God.(at least In the West we have descended from the Judeo-Christian Tradition) yet inequality is increasing in Western Democracies over the past 50 yeras with the Rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
Australia has had a culture of equality and a fair go but we seem to have been gradually Americanised since WW2."
IMO - that lot above is going to confuse the hell out of a good potential debate - your thread header.
let's get rid of the confusion with 'equality' -------
"we are equal to the extent that we all have one vote, "
that's a total furphy --
"Australia has had a culture of equality and a fair go but we seem to have been gradually Americanised since WW2."
lets dispense with all of the above - it's a load of bollocks --------
1. One vote doesn't count for crap when you have such a thing called lobbying and pork barreling - end of story - there's a huge distortion
2. as far as Australia - "has had a culture of equality and a fair go"
does this look like equality and fair go to you???
so, let's face facts - if you were an aboriginal - it was never fair go and equal, if you were woman - same, if you were a 20 year old male - you could be drafted - and sent to war ---------- BUT, you were too young to vote -
how's that for fair and equal
friend - it's a load of bollocks - and, a great pity because I think the initial idea of your debate was a good idea -- would like to see a new thread that stuck to it
