I just wanted to put an idea to be considered as an alternative, as someone involved in the Balama project at the very early stage till the production,
Coarse flakes (+80 mesh) are short in the market and generally sold for premium prices. If Syrah could change its product mix towards coarser fraction than average price would increase to a level that Syrah can generate profit.
Balama has different mineralization zones, special one is called Balama East which is on the contact of the Granite instrusive. Balama East has the largest flake graphites even upto 6 mm.
On the Annual Report dated 30 June 2014 (https://hotcopper.com.au/documentdownload?id=uOMxKKzFkiWRTLKhOROKAxjvTkYI5wu%2FpnOfsplJ2%2Fk%3D) it was mentioned that;
" During March 2014, further test work was performed on Balama East graphite by a potential European customer using simple flotation. The grade of the ore was 19.2% TGC. The results are shown in the Table;
Approximately 56.8% of the processed material is coarse to very coarse (+80 US mesh). The results show an excellent concentrate grade across all size fractions"
If a mine production could be performed from Balama East and same results as above could be achieved towards coarser fraction than average sales price of over US$ 1,100/ton would be possible as shown below.
I think, this would probably make Syrah a cash positive/profitable company.
Please don't shoot the messenger, I am just trying to put an idea to be discussed.
