China's growth as a dominant player in the world is based on economics and not on war. They use their massive population and technology strengths to manufacture products that the world needs. Yes , they have a massive military strength but have not used it other than some local war games and some intimidation.
They are no threat to Australia via invasion or such. Why would they when they can just buy what they need. Invasion leaves broken infrastructure and a lot of blood at very high $$$$. Paper contracts to buy all that are so much cheaper. Plus, when was the last time a major military invasion was successful??. France, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine?? You cannot win by invasion if the invaded country fight you every day. A few rice farmers and goat herders have proven that.
