I wouldn't "say" there are many down 80%. There are more likely some, like myself down in the 30 to 40% range. It's a few cents, no big deal. Holders have taken the pain and are not falling for the intimidation tricks (like loading the sell side), and selling. So the shorts are washing shares around between themselves and the shareholders are sitting and just waiting, again, like myself, for the catalyst/green light to double down and buy this thing up when the right signal comes. That could be anytime and when it does the shorts are going to give back their profits real quick. If I was short, I'd be thinking, there can't be much more in this if anything, time to get out. The smarties are already out, that's why the total short position has come down from 10.5% to 8.3%.
