It's all about the relgious aspect I think. Surely the Poms and others would have sat down with the Jews after ww2 and discussed their options for a suitable location? Their connection by faith to the land which is now Israel must have been a deciding factor I'd imagine. Their problem is and has always been that others held the same connection to the same land. How the hell that gets sorted out other than the Arab world needing to cut a few losses is beyond a mere mortal than moi.
