Auto suppliers go out of business because a long term deal they had with one to two customers went under. The best things a company can do to stabilize revenues are to diversify (in GSW case across regions and verticals) and develop a competitive advantage against the competition.

You make a number of valid points. I beg to disagree on your assertion that "no business knows whether their revenue model will remain fully intact". Companies like Boeing, Caterpillar, FedEx, Oracle, Coca-Cola, Technology One, CSL Pharma etc know that their revenue business model will remain fully intact 3-5 year out. What do all these companies have in common? A durable competitive advantage.
