Is graphene safe?

There is still no definitive research on the safety of graphene. Graphene could easily be the next asbestos. Asbestos was once heralded as the new 'wonder material' and today the same is said about graphene. Anyone who says graphene is completely safe is misleading you. The simple fact is that we don't know yet whether or not it is biologically harmful to humans. Some recent studies have shown that exposure to graphene nanoplatelets is harmful and potentially carcinogenic.

    See: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/nn204229f)

We should always remember the precautionary principle: if something has a suspected risk of causing harm, it should not be used in the absence of greater scientific certainty about its safety.

Don't worry FGR holders, I don't think the legitimate safety concerns about graphene will stymie the growth of the industry - there is simply too much money at play for concerns about product safety to win the day. And so let the great world spin.
