Unfortunately, a lot of the Western World were quick with mealy mouthed words about a greener / cleaner world but failed to back it up with actions.
As a result, Syrah geared up to produce and supply anode material based on natural graphite from their Mozambique operation to meet a supposed demand, which to date hasn't eventuated.
The almighty dollar won out yet again, and most opted for the cheaper (and potentially heavily subsidised) and definitely highly polluting synthetic alternative.
Syrah is now caught between a rock and a hard place heavily invested in producing for a market which they hope will still eventuate. And a whole host of long term SYR shareholders are similar stuck hoping that a number of "Save The Planet" western governments stick to their original positions.
Certainly not ideal, as they say hope is not a strategy.
