One reason knowledgeable traders are leaving graphite behind is because the latest research has silicon as a far superior material for batteries. And silicon is everywhere and costs next to nothing.
It cannot be ignored and what can't be changed is power/weight ratio for materials.
For carbon (read graphite) 372 mAh/g
For lithium 3,862 mAh/g
For silicon 4,189 mAh/g
So a lithium ion battery with a silicon anode is able to store TEN TIMES the power of an equivalent sized carbon anode battery.
Is Graphite over?
