Gaseous form consists of loosely bonded smallest molecule. That molecule can literally leak out super easily. Liquification increases the molecular bond and "clumps" the hydrogen so it can leak as easily. Problem is you have to get it compressed and avoid it heating up which requires heavily insulated very high pressure vessel containment. all expensive.
The main benefit of liquification is the freight density.
