I won't justify his salary. All I want is the best candidate to get the job. The whole economy is so dependent on the CBA that it must be allowed to flourish.
Compare to Bill Shorten on about $300,000pa.
Some would say if you pay peanuts then you get monkeys. Would we get a better quality ALP leader if they were paid $1,000,000pa. Unknowable, but you would not get a worse leader.
Bill Shorten wouldn't get paid anywhere near that cash on the outside. But as we saw in the election he does have leadership qualities that are prized by ALP members. eg The treacherous Mediscare tactic which is now illegal. His cunning allowed him to harvest that gem. He was also treacherous towards his own union members. I have never understood why ALP members admire these qualities. These are the last qualities you would want in a bank leader.
