Hotdog,some of the points you are saying are worth thinking of,let me share with you the example of Israel (where i came from).
Israel did not have oil/gas fields untill 2009.The country bought gas from egypt,than in 2009 they found gas fields,the price of the gas went down from 8$ to 3.7$ (2009-2014),Yet the industry has adupted to idea that now Israel is an indipendent energy country,so alot of gas oil/coal power plants converted into gas power plants,alot of industrial plants converted into gas usage atc.on top of it,finding an energy source for a country which did not have one will change dramatically its geopolitacal position,and that is worth planty of money...
