Remember the first duty of a doctor. “First do no harm”.
Sending someone home with a positive outlook could be a much less harmful option than sending them home under a huge cloud of depression.
The doctor’s duty is to care for the patient. Putting them in a potentially suicidal frame of mind for the sake of telling “the truth” hardly comes under that remit.
