"royalty" would imply that the current owners would receive an ongoing fee for as long as the technology is generating an income. The announcement implies that ESI will make a one off payment once the technology is in production.
Today's announcement basically says that the Calleje brothers only want to do business with ESI and no-one else. If ESI fails in the future then they only receive $1m for their technology. Everyone knows that their technology is worth alot more than $1m.
This is a major VOTE OF CONFIDENCE for ESI.
PS. We now have 2 parties interested in underwriting the SPP. this is yet another vote of confidence.
