It truly isn't racist... as we are all one race - homo sapiens with a little bit of neanderthal and a few other hominid species thrown in.
The "racial" stuff is merely jingoism with xenophobia and bigotry added. This results from Fear of the Other and denigrating those who come from other places for the sake of feeling superior to what you fear.
Its a small minded construct to justify denigrating others... the same psychopathology that results in "Us and Them" mentality of partisan politics.
