Many managers love to tell investors how they meet with companies regularly, including overseas trips, fact finding tours etc, but they still seem to get caught out like everyone else to earnings downgrades, business slowdowns etc. Makes you wonder whether this active management is worth the effort, especially after all the fees and costs are taken out.
I was once firmly in the active management camp (eg LICs), but certainly have changed towards low cost passive (ETFs) more recently. No regrets so far.
