Very true. Long Term Capital Management looked like a great success for a number of years until... it blew up.
You can strip out all the safety features of your car and it will go faster and run more cheaply because it is so much lighter. So while the going is good you'll look like a hero.
But when the crap hits the fan the likelihood of tragedy is extremely high.
I prefer to try to not be a hero.
