There are sadly many naive holders here attributing this whole sorry saga to that of the 'unions'
You simply have no knowledge of what is happeneing within this organisation.
It is not the fault of the unions that the management ie The QF Board have purchased the wrong aircraft.
Whilst Singapore airlines,Cathay even ANZ have been re equiping their fleet with Fuel efficient 777's Qantas managment in there short sightedness have persisted in hanging onto the classic 747 and 400 's - Indeed as a flight engineer on the classic i was given my redundancy notice in 1991 due to the 'immenent' retirement of these aircraft. This was recinded and low and behold they continued to operate these gas guzzlers for another 17 years. It is no different to the present 400.The fuel saving alone is in the order of 300 million per annum had we had 777's.
This is a managment decision against the recommendations of Flight ops.
The same now can be said for the 767.Tired old gas guzzling clunkers without any interior upgrades.
And what was the managment decision to address this ? Order 787's and give them to Jetstar. Is it any wonder what is happening!

The same applies to the product they serve on board.- right at the coal face where it is needed.-.How many ways can someone be asked to sugar coat garbage..A product that has been subject to so much cost cutting that it is embarrasing for the flight attendants to serve. This is done at a MANAGEMENT level, not some union bloke at the conveyor belt getting your bags.

It is not the fault of the 'unions' that QF aircraft operate with less than the original CASA required F/A to Passengers ratio, and you as a passenger cant get service during busy meal periods.

It is not the fault of the unions that you as a business class passenger dont get your meal choice because ample meals wernt loaded as the compnay is happy to scrimp and save and roll the dice on counting on someone not ordering a meal.

It is not the fault of the unions Qantas has a top heavy managment structure whos only solution to achieving there bonus's - all of which are well documented is to cost cut the very core product which you as a passenger pay to recieve and and then wonder why they are loosing market share.

And as for there industiral relations management-well thats also well documented.Nothing like having 20000 of your workforce totally disengaged to help the companies cause.

So next time you fly Qantas and have to que up for a boarding pass, then wait around for a late aircraft because lack of man power somewhere up line meant it was running 60 minutes late, then hop in yr uncomfortable tired looking seat, waiting for your 'full service' Muffin then arrive late and wait another 30 minutes for a bag which if your lucky will come, maybe stop to think why all this is happening
