It is dangerous to gamble on hedging at this moment in time just because the A$ is low against the US$ - how long do you really think that will last?
The A$ is based on a resource economy and we are in the midst of a secular bull in commodities.
The US$ may have some short-term strength because of the massive de-leveraging occurring due to the financial collapse but it's future must surely be down bigtime.
Massive inflationary pressure due to all these bailouts and likely foreign sales of T-bonds all appear very negative for US$ and positive for gold and commodities.
The sooner ALD are hedge free the better.
