Yes. I think that poverty is a contributing factor but if that was the root cause we wouldn’t see people who manage their relationships well.
more recently I’ve been mentoring a man who came from an abusive, broken family. He left school without completing year nine. His comment was he basically lived on the street. He is mild though blunt, he has a good relationship with his wife who is extremely supportive of him and his income is still not high. He has every reason to be proud of himself.
he’s not alone among those who break the pattern of abuse.
this is why I say that the problem is a lack of self control. Maybe I should add - a refusal to self reflect.
