Although I appreciate and understand your valid societal explanations/theories, Parsifal, I believe that you're overthinking it - and perhaps underthinking the animal/instinct aspects. As for me, I just see monkeys, and while some exhibit more monkey behaviour than others, we are all just slightly more than the cavemen/women of our origins. A few more million years of evolution required, but I very much doubt that our species will last that long, given our penchant for greed and violence - and the monkeys we often choose to lead us.
As to why misogynist damaged men/monkeys seek partners, it's little more than the survival imperative. Misogynist or not we are social creatures and partnerships are a survival mechanism.
In any case, I can't see DV dissipating via societal pressure due to the monkey factor. Enhanced intelligence is one thing, animal behaviour is another - primal and locked into our DNA.
