    if we are heading to root causes - and you rightly identify the relevance of culture - rather than the fact it is a consequence of poor self control and ineffective self management - let’s look at the biological and historic imperatives. We could also add in the teachings of most religions

    embodied in most cultures (there are some notable exceptions)
    is the idea of men as the owner of women. This is I believe , but not articulated, a matter of gene control. The man who must provide for their partner and children ( because a vulnerable pregnant woman or mother of children, needed protection is off spring were to survive) , wants to know that it is their own progeny they are protecting

    what was essentially a biological imperative morphed into sets of social rules that outlived their usefulness but are so deeply ingrained it’s almost impossible
