Sounds like you really hooked up with a bit of a dirtbag dandy, Mss P.
I don’t doubt that DV runs through all socioeconomic groups but I do believe that those in the lower socioeconomic groups are affected more by Cost of Living pressures.
There’s more people in these groups who are prone to being heavy drinkers and/or smokers.
These are only 2 examples, I’m sure we could list many many more examples of CoL pressures that are increasing family stresses but these 2 are and have been targeted by many governments over a long period.
The government and health experts will tell us that the twice yearly increases in taxation on these 2 products are an attempt to bring about health benefits but it’s plain to see that they’re just revenue driven.
These cash grabs off of the more vulnerable people in our society are just as much a driver of CoL pressures as well as driving domestic violence in these groups.
If mum and dad spend most of their money on ciggys and grog then they don’t have bugger all to spend of food for the kids.
I’ve seen this in WA and the NT and amongst different ethnic groups.
Poor governmental planning and milking the average/below average citizens of every possible cent they can has and will increase DV.
The poorer people get the more violence we will see in our communities.
Of course you can poo poo my opinion but think about it, poor countries have bigger problems with DV than affluent countries.
Our poorer people are getting poorer and our middle classes are shrinking, do the maths and have a think.
