The first Christians were Aramaic speaking Jews, the first Christian churches were not catholic.

The Catholic Church did not give us the New Testament, the most basic student in biblical history would be giggling at that statement.

The council of Hippo in 390 put a seal on the New Testament but they had several tests to ensure the scriptures used was legit.

One criteria was that the early first century Christians new of these writings that it came from a disciple or one who learnt from the disciples who eyewitnesses Jesus ministry.

Another was that the books were used across the whole world church.

The catholic claim of authority and canonization from Hippo council unfortunately ignores numerous historical accounts of the New Testament already being formed into one body, just one example preceding the council of Hippo was Origen, early church father born in Alexandria Egypt he lived between 185 to 254 AD. Origen names all the books of both the Old and New Testaments in ther entirety.

All the council of Hippo did was put a stamp on what had been accepted centuries before by the world church the canonization finally occurred at a later council.

LOL the Catholic Church gave us the New Testament is nearly as funny as Purgatory.
