Simco, If it were not for China We would have been well in the economic poo during the Howard years. Mainly Western Australian minerals and our other commodities rural etc have helped us along. If you want to blame the current government for the interest rate rise decisions made by the independant Reserve Bank since the election, fair enough, but that means you will have to give them the credit when they drop in the future. Also, on the matter of employment shouldnt be too much of a problem given the tens of thousands of overseas workers that had to be brought in under Howards work visa laws to make up the shortfall. If there is any slowdown no further such visas need be issued. It is an indictment on the Howard era that there are not enough skilled workers in this country and we have to import on a temporary basis. also on employment the figures are inflated by all the workers forced into casual employment under the notorious work choices laws. Sure more people participating but for less hours. The government needs to be given sufficient time to determine its success or otherwise. By the end of their term we will be in a position to determine whether they are worthy of continuing. However,to those who are fixed on their ideology the governments performance wont make any difference. The government is never decided by liberal or labor ideologues but by those who are capable of changing their minds. The grinning Brendan Nelson is one of those, he is Labor turned Liberal although he is unlikely to change again.
