By taking out the emotion out of this hot topic there is a distinction between immigrants and refugees. Immigration is there to 'invite' people into a country to increase the skill base of that host country. Refugees are generally forced onto host countries in line with international conventions, they are not invited to increase the skill base of the society but more as an act of generosity to those less fortunate regardless of skill or education. At a base level you would NOT expect all refugees to become fully employed or integrated into our society as they are here not on merit but on pity, yes we feel sorry for them and their circumstance that's the lowest common denominator on this topic. Pity is not a motivator to improve yourself. The Dutton comments were nothing more than stating an unsavory fact that do-gooders can't get their head around.
