Thought it might be of interest to just have a look at some of the blurb re M&G for any newbies around who may not be cognisant of who M&G are and what they do...
..."M&G Global Basics Fund looks to identify and exploit investment themes that they believe will be long-term drivers of growth around the world.
Major social and economic developments are leading to structural shifts in economic activity and consumer behaviour so M&G invests in those companies that they believe can benefit the most from these trends.
M&G have identified many of these trends in the emerging markets. A notable example of this is the demand for basic goods and services, fundamental to infrastructure development and energy provision, which has remained resilient despite the global downturn this was fuelled largely by China and India. The fund aims to achieve long-term capital growth by investing in companies involved in these basic industries, focusing on companies that either extract raw materials or convert them into products and services.
M&G aims to invest in companies operating in the emerging regions, or those with business driven by demand from these markets. However, they tend to invest in companies based in developed markets, as they typically involve less volatility and risk. they seek out companies which are ideally positioned along the curve of global economic developments.
These businesses provide goods and services that are rarely out of demand" ( M&G website )
......like CDU and their Copper for instance.
...I particularly like this bit..."invests in those companies that they believe can benefit the most from these trends" so whether ultimately a friend or foe...(and that has yet to be decided IMHO although the recent purchase moves it closer to the friend perspective...possibly, one never knows in this business...what's the quote? ..trust know one ha ha)
However, there is no doubt that a company with the stature of M&G that manages 195 billion pound of funds...do know their stuff...so if they've increased their holdings in CDU I guess I can too...
Cheers to holders
