He didn't really question it from what I've seen, just played it down (sure, for personal advantage - just like scomo publicly admonished him for his own political advantage). Here are the direct quotes I've read:
"I don’t know if this virus started in China or somewhere else and frankly I don’t care."
"Because it just might be Australia, it just might be Britain, it just might be China."
It's not really questioning it or denying it - just stating the fact that he really couldn't care about who is to 'blame' as that doesn't get him the results that he wants (which is health equipment for Australia in this case).
