I think that egos may be coming into play here.

Hardman is the junior partner in relation to Woodside.

Since Simon came on board (with good credentials) he has unceramoniously sacked the Secretary, Taken WPL to the Supreme Court over cost recovery matters, appears to have taken control and seems keen to grow the company fast.

Woodside might be feeling that Simon may be pushing his weight around a little too much for the likes of the CEO and other chiefs.

Last weeks antics look to me like a ploy to embarass Simon and give Woodside an opportunity to show that they will call the shots.
